Join Me in The South Of France for a Garden Design Workshop
at the Château La Tour Apollinaire in Perpignan
Come join me June 16-20 in the south of France for a garden design workshop. Our location with be Château La Tour Apollinaire in Perpignan France. We will study the basics of garden design using the Chateau grounds as a guide and then practically apply that to solving a design issue in your own garden.
Upon completion of this three day course you will understand the principles of design from layout, to using hardscape, to plant selection and placement. Plus have a design to take home to your own garden and apply.
I’ve been working with the Château La Tour Apollinaire over the last year helping redesign their own gardens and this workshop is also a chance to invite you into my thought process as we undergo this work. The workshop is limited in size so you will receive a great deal of one on one instruction.
But One Does Not Live By Design Alone!
We will also take some breaks from our work to explore the areas rich culture, history, wine and culinary traditions. Wine tasting, a catered meal with wine pairings, nature excursion and time spent in the town of Perpignan in a group or on your own – are all part of the itinerary. The center of the historic town is just a 15 minute walk from the Chateau
Our schedule
June 15 – Make your way to Perpignan via plane, car or train. There are multiple transportation links. That evening we will walk to town to have dinner together.
June 16 – After breakfast in the Chateau, the workshop begins. We will spend part of the morning touring the grounds as our initial classroom. Then we will go back inside for some basic instruction in design principles from goals, to layout to plant section. That afternoon we will embark on a Catalan Wine Escape. For dinner we will continue to sample the culinary choices Perpignan offers.
June 17 – After breakfast in the Chateau, we will plunge into your design challenge as we examine them, propose solutions and then you get started drawing your own landscape plans with Paul’s guidance as you go. For the afternoon we embark on a nature excursion to Les Oruges. Dinner is on our own either in Perpignan or since each apartment has a full equipped kitchen you may choose to shop the local shops and try your hand at cooking. Perpignan has fresh produce, seafood, meats, cheese and of course wine.
June 18 – After breakfast in the Chateau, we all look at each other’s plans, discuss and exchange ideas. Our goal is for you to finish with a set of plans you can take home to your own garden and apply. Our final afternoon is time on your own to enjoy the shopping in Perpignan. Our farewell dinner that night is a fully catered affair at the Chateau accompanied by a wine presentation.
June 19 – After breakfast we depart until the next time!
The Chateau has several apartments, each housing rooms with private en suite baths and a common kitchen and living area. Almost all have a queen bed but a few have double beds in case you wish to share a room.
There are public spaces both inside and out to enjoy company, a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. We will be the only guests booked at the Chateau during the workshop.
The cost is broken into two parts
The stay at the Chateau including meals, excursions etc
The actual design workshop itself is additional. We anticipate the possibility of couples traveling together and one perhaps not wishing to do the workshop. This is why we price it separately. The workshop includes all instruction and materials needed.
The stay at the Chateau includes the following for each guest.
- 4 nights accommodation
- 4 breakfasts
- 1 afternoon tea
- Catalan Wine Escape
- Nature Excursion to Les Orgues
- A catered dinner accompanied by a wine presentation.
Price (all prices are in Euros)
Chateau Options and Prices are as Follows
- Single person occupying a Queen Bed Sized Room – €1175 Euros and includes all meals, excursions etc as outlined above.
- Couple occupying a Queen Bed sized room – €1520 Euros for both guests and includes all meals, excursions etc as outlined above.
- Two people occupying a Twin Bed room – €760 Euros each and includes all meals, excursions etc as outlined above.
Design Workshop is €500 Euros per person and is additional to the Chateau cost above. It includes all design materials.
